Back to the beginning

I’ve gone back to the beginning this week, to where it all began.

The belief that overcoming unhappiness, stress, anxiety, and the voice in my head that keeps telling me I’m not good enough begins with one thing.

Changing the lens through which I view my world. But to do that, I need to change the lens through which I view myself.

And a picture tells a thousand words, doesn’t it? This one says it all.

The truth is that you can choose where you put your attention. You can focus on those things you don’t have or go on celebrating those things you do have.

But we so often want what we don’t have.

  • The poor man craves money. The rich man may seek relief from the shackles it creates.

  • The single woman wants a romantic partner. The married woman may want out of a relationship that makes her feel small.

  • The sick just want to be able to walk around the block. The professional athlete may want to escape the constant spectre of comparison.

For me, feeling good about myself has always been the key. Because when I have that, everything else falls into place.

And over these last eight weeks, my nervous system has been taking in evidence of that across two dimensions of my life. My relationships with women and my relationship with my work.

My nervous system is learning to remain calm around women, as I create more and more evidence that this is possible.

At work, I have decided to stop allowing other people make me feel small.

I am accumulating more and more evidence that there is nothing wrong with me. That I am lovable and that I am good enough.

And as this belief settles more and more into my body, and not just my mind, my experience of life is becoming better.
