Stop confusing who you are with how you feel

This year has been a revelation for me. Especially the last two months.
I am discovering things about myself that have completely opened up what it means to live.
And this past week, I stumbled upon something beautiful about what it means to live as yourself.
It begins when you stop confusing how you feel with who you are.
You can feel uncertain without becoming fearful. You can pursue success without needing it to prove your worth. You can desire intimacy and connection without needing either to prove that you are lovable.
You can want the things you want in life without being dependent on them being realised.
That might be the part that has hit home the most.
You can want, desire and pursue without projecting. You can make yourself more available to life without trying to control what life gives you in return.
Acceptance does not mean withdrawing. Peace does not mean passivity.
I can still desire. I can participate honestly. I can make myself available to love, intimacy and possibility—all while accepting that none of it is guaranteed.
And if something does not become what I hoped, that does not mean I failed. It simply means life unfolded differently.
Perhaps that is what it means to focus on the process and let the outcome take care of itself.
To stop ending new stories before they have had time to unfold. To stop predicting the truth through fear or manufacturing a future through hope. To remain present long enough to see what is actually happening.
To keep my standards. Tolerate the discomfort. Let people and situations reveal themselves.
To do the work and choose the behaviours that build the life I want.
Maybe living as me is not about becoming someone new. Maybe it is simply practising being the person who was there all along - even within the doubt, friction and disappointment that living, and loving, will inevitably bring.
Because when I choose to live as me, I choose to live without shame.
There will be risk. There may be disappointment. There will be vulnerability.
But whatever happens, it will be me who experiences it.
Without the mask. Without the performance. Without the need to chase.
